Can My PC Run Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy? How to Check

Updated 2026-09-06 · Facts verified against official sources

The most common way to get this wrong is to compare VRAM numbers. A card with 8 GB can fail where a 6 GB card succeeds, because the requirement that actually gates the game is DirectX 12.1 with Shader Model 6.6 — a feature level, not a memory capacity.

Check your own card in about a minute

Do not look up someone else's benchmark. Check yours:

  1. Press Win + R, type dxdiag, press Enter.
  2. Open the Display tab.
  3. Read Feature Levels and Driver Model.

If 12_1 is not in the feature-level list, the game will not start regardless of how much VRAM the card has. That is a hardware property — no driver update adds a feature level the silicon does not implement.

Where the official baseline sits

MinimumRecommended
GPU6 GB VRAM — Radeon RX 5500 XT / GeForce GTX 10608 GB VRAM — RX 6700 XT / RTX 3060 Ti
CPURyzen 3 3100 / Core i3-12100 — 4 cores / 8 threadsRyzen 5 5600X / Core i5-12400F
RAM16 GB16 GB
Storage75 GB SSD — required, not recommended75 GB SSD
OSWindows 10/11 64-bitWindows 10/11 64-bit

Note what the minimum GPU pairing tells you: an RX 5500 XT and a GTX 1060 are not close in raw performance. When a requirements list pairs cards that far apart, the number being enforced is the feature level and the VRAM floor — not throughput.

Cards that sit right on the line

If your card is older than the two named above, VRAM is the wrong thing to look at. Several popular older cards ship with 8 GB and still sit below the named baseline generationally — the dxdiag check above is the only answer that applies to your specific system.

To be confirmed: we are not going to publish a pass/fail list of individual GPU models. We have not tested them, and a wrong entry on a list like that costs someone a refund window. The feature-level check is the reliable answer, and it takes a minute.

The three requirements people miss

  1. SSD. Stated as a requirement. A mechanical drive is not a supported configuration.
  2. 4 cores / 8 threads. A 4-core CPU without hyperthreading is below spec at any clock speed.
  3. 16 GB RAM at both tiers. There is no 8 GB path — minimum and recommended are the same here, which is unusual and easy to skim past.

Storage: budget more than 75 GB

75 GB is the install size, not the space you need free. Patches need headroom, and a nearly full drive causes problems that look like other problems.

Quick answers

  • My card has more VRAM than the minimum. Am I fine? Not necessarily. Run the dxdiag check.
  • Will a driver update add DirectX 12.1? No. Feature level is a hardware capability.
  • Can I run it from an external drive? If it is an SSD and the connection is not the bottleneck, that meets the stated requirement. A external mechanical drive does not.
  • Steam Deck? See the platforms page — handheld verification status is tracked separately.
