Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Crash and Freeze Fixes

Before trying driver fixes, check three conditions from the official requirements. They block more systems than anything else, and each one is a hard gate rather than a performance setting.
Check these first
1. DirectX 12.1 with Shader Model 6.6. This is the one that catches people. A GPU can meet the VRAM requirement and still fail this — feature-level support and memory capacity are different things. Older cards with plenty of VRAM are not automatically eligible.
2. SSD. Asobo lists a solid-state drive as a requirement. A mechanical drive is not a supported configuration, and streaming-related stalls on HDDs are expected behaviour rather than a bug.
3. 4 cores / 8 threads. A 4-core CPU without hyperthreading is below spec regardless of clock speed.
If any of these three is not met, no driver update will fix it.
Then check you are within spec
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10/11 64-bit | Windows 10/11 64-bit |
| CPU | Ryzen 3 3100 / Core i3-12100 | Ryzen 5 5600X / Core i5-12400F |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| GPU | 6 GB VRAM | 8 GB VRAM |
| Storage | 75 GB SSD | 75 GB SSD |
16 GB of RAM is the minimum, not the recommendation — it does not increase between tiers. If you are on 8 GB, that is below spec.
Storage headroom
The stated install is 75 GB. A drive with exactly 75 GB free will cause problems: patches add on top of the base install, Windows needs room to stay responsive, and shader caches live outside the game folder.
Low disk space produces symptoms that look like crashes but are not — failed writes during shader compilation are a common cause of first-launch instability.
General steps worth trying
Standard measures, in rough order of how often they help:
- Verify game files through Steam. Interrupted downloads produce hard-to-diagnose crashes.
- Update GPU drivers. New releases often get driver-side fixes in the first weeks.
- Delete the shader cache and let it rebuild if crashes started after a driver update.
- Disable overlays. Third-party overlays are a recurring source of crashes at launch across many games.
- Run without overclocks. A stable-in-everything-else overclock can still fail here.
What we are not going to tell you
There is no verified list of game-specific crash causes yet. Patch notes and known-issue lists take time to accumulate, and repeating fixes invented on forums wastes your time.
To be confirmed: game-specific crash causes and official fixes. When patch notes land, this page gets updated with what they actually say.
Is it a widespread problem?
The evidence suggests not. The PC version holds 85 on Metacritic and 93% positive from 2,454 Steam reviews. Games with broad stability problems generally show it in player sentiment within days.
That does not help if you are the one crashing — but it does mean the cause is more likely to be specific to your configuration than to the game itself, which is why the requirements checklist above is the right starting point.
Quick answers
- Why does it crash on launch? Check Shader Model 6.6 support first, then SSD and disk space.
- Is 8 GB of RAM enough? No. 16 GB is the minimum.
- Does it need an SSD? Yes — listed as a requirement.
- Are there known issues? Nothing officially published that we can cite yet.
