Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Story and Setting

You play as Sophia, a young plunderer stranded on the Minotaur's Island, fifteen years before A Plague Tale: Requiem. The hook is that she can shift between her medieval present and the ancient Minoan past — and what changes back then reshapes what she faces now.
This page covers the setup and structure. It avoids late-game specifics.
The premise
Sophia is searching for her own past. That search puts her on the island, where an army is chasing the treasure buried in its labyrinth — and where the myth of the Minotaur turns out to be more than a story.
The framing is a prequel: fifteen years before Requiem, with a new protagonist rather than a returning one. That distance is deliberate. It lets the game use the series' setting without requiring you to have played the earlier entries.
The era-shifting mechanic
The signature system is the shift between two time periods:
- The medieval present, where Sophia is being hunted
- The ancient Minoan era, the age that built the labyrinth
The two are causally linked. Altering something in the past changes the present — which is what turns the mechanic from a scene-change device into the basis for the game's puzzles. When a mechanism will not respond in one era, the answer usually lies in the other.
A shift in how the series plays
The earlier games were built around stealth and avoidance. This one moves toward agile melee — parrying, countering, and using throwables against pursuers.
That is a genuine departure, and worth knowing if you came from the previous entries expecting the same rhythm. Combat here is something you engage with rather than something you route around.
Structure
The story runs 14 chapters over roughly 11.5 hours. Chapter titles trace the arc rather than naming locations — from Blood Ties through From Hell It Rose and Death It Sowed, ending at As One.
That is a linear, chapter-driven design. There is no open world to wander; the pacing is authored.
The cast
Sophia is the protagonist. Several other named characters appear across the story, and search interest suggests players are actively looking a few of them up — one in particular starts drawing searches sharply once players reach a certain point.
We are keeping individual character pages free of late-game specifics until we can mark spoilers properly. Names alone are on our characters page.
How it connects to the earlier games
The link is chronological rather than narrative. Set fifteen years before Requiem, it establishes the world's history rather than continuing anyone's arc.
Two searches come up repeatedly here — whether it is a prequel or a sequel, and whether the earlier games are required reading. The answers are: prequel, and no.
